I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. I always make fun of it and stuff. But isn’t everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?

And like an unannounced hurricane, you swept into my life and turned it upside down. Making me reassess everything I thought to be true.

Making me love you.

Making me think that I don’t want to live without you.

The curve of your nose, the pinkness of your lip. the lines surrounding the bottom of your eyes. each high and low light perfectly draping the crown of your golden head. The bend in your neck, the shape of your arm; all welded together to construct the most engaging vision my eyes have had the privilege to gape at. Staring at your photograph in disbelief that such an exquisite specimen was captured for a moment in time, frozen in my camera, now resting in my hand. I hold you gently like a delicate object that could fragment at any moment. The truth is I am not afraid you’ll break, I am afraid you’ll disappear.

But I think the first real change in women’s body image came when JLo turned it butt-style. That was the first time that having a large-scale situation in the back was part of mainstream American beauty. Girls wanted butts now. Men were free to admit that they had always enjoyed them. And then, what felt like moments later, boom—Beyoncé brought the leg meat. A back porch and thick muscular legs were now widely admired. And from that day forward, women embraced their diversity and realized that all shapes and sizes are beautiful. Ah ha ha. No. I’m totally messing with you. All Beyonce and JLo have done is add to the laundry list of attributes women must have to qualify as beautiful. Now every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll tits. The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes.
He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.
